Duane Carlisle was named as the 49ers assistant strength and conditioning coach on March 10, 2005. He will direct all of the speed, agility and conditioning programs for all positions on the team. Carlisle will also assist Johnny Parker with the implementation of the lifting programs throughout the season. Additionally, Carlisle will assist Dr. Suzanne Nelson with the implementation of a comprehensive sports nutrition program. He will also assist the team’s athletic trainers with reconditioning injured players as they prepare to return to the playing field.
Carlisle, the president and founder of Lightning Fast Training Systems, is one of the leaders in the area of athletic performance training. He has spent the last 13 years pushing athletes to perform to their maximum potential. Carlisle recently served as the speed development consultant for the Philadelphia Eagles (2000-04). He was also the head speed, strength and conditioning coach for the Philadelphia Charge of the Women’s United Soccer Association and the speed, strength and conditioning consultant for Major League Lacrosse’s New Jersey Pride (2001-2003). Additionally, Carlisle was the speed development coordinator with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (1997-98) and was the sprint and jump coach at Penn State University. He has prepared numerous players for the NFL Combine including Pro Bowlers Brian Westbrook, Priest Holmes, Matt Hasselbeck and Jerry Azumah. Carlisle has also served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at the prestigious Lawrenceville Boarding School in Lawrenceville, NJ (2000-04). Carlisle is a native of Haverhill, MA and was a track and field athlete at the University of Maryland. He graduated in 1989. Carlisle’s coaching background: 1989-92 (Penn State), 1997-98 (Tampa Bay Devil Rays), 2000-04 (Philadelphia Eagles), 2001-03 (New Jersey Pride and Philadelphia Charge), 2005 (San Francisco 49ers).
