“Helping Hurting People in Jesus’ Name” is the mission statement of The Rescue Mission of Roanoke, which is the largest homeless shelter in Virginia (378-bed facility.) The Rescue Mission attempts to enable and empower homeless families by offering food, shelter, clothing assistance, medical care and friendship. The Mission campus is located at 402 Fourth Street, SE, Roanoke and is a 501(C)(3) grassroots organization with a compassionate staff of 79 and more than 4,000 volunteers providing comprehensive crisis intervention services for Southwest Virginia. The Mission is open 24 hours a day--365 days a year. Since its origin in 1948, The Rescue Mission has consistently served all people in need, regardless of race, creed, gender, age or ethnicity.
